| What we mean by business advisor is just that … 'business'.
We look very holistically at our advice and it is not just advice around accounts or tax or finance, although that is one of our core skills. We also look at organisation and people issues, at sales and marketing issues and at systems and procedural issues. After all the business leader has to keep lots of different plates spinning in the air simultaneously. The 3 core topics are Marketing, Personnel and Finance, so when we help the business we may well need to look at helping to keep each plate spinning. After all if any one of them gets dropped, then the business will suffer.
My point is that we can help in a wide variety of circumstances.
Try this example, if you are part of the leadership team of a business, ask yourself (and your leadership team) 3 initial questions:
- what their key frustrations are
- what their personal and business goals are
- if they are prepared to actually change things and try different ways of doing things.
The answers give you a starting point, a frame of reference to work on and improve.
Also, part of helping advise a business is to know when to call in another advisor! We don't claim to be an expert in lots of different areas – and if, for example, as a result of helping you we identify that we needed to improve your marketing, we wouldn't necessarily help you to design a detailed marketing strategy (although we might!) in which case we would help you to come up with a budget and then introduce you to a marketing professional.
