June 2011
Most of the office attended the National Accountants Conference in Birmingham – some interesting stuff and a positively good time was had by all.

April 2011
Welcome back to Joanne Holroyd who left us about a year ago and has now returned because we are such a great place to work – well, we agree!
Our Spring newsletter is out.  If you don’t receive a copy, and want one, please contact the office or download one from this website.

March 2011
The Spring budget…not much muscle flexing by the ConDem government, but a promise of much more attention being paid to businesses in the form of the Business Records Check.

February 2011
Yet another annual TGIF (thank goodness its February) celebration of the end of the tax return season.

December 2010
The snow and freezing fog couldn’t keep most of the team away from Party night – although not everyone managed to make it an enjoyable time was had by all!

November 2010
Ashley is the diet king! A fantastic 5 stone weight loss…and the rest of us are just wimps who can’t keep up.

October 2010
Dietary willpower has been completely lost by 2 of the team, one of whom has actually put weight on!

September 2010
The diets are working!

August 2010
The chaps in the office have decided they are too fat – and it is time to diet! We have started a fat club chart with weekly ‘weigh-ins’.

July 2010
Goodbye and good luck to Joanne Holroyd who is moving to Hexam in Cumbria …and welcome aboard to Danielle Rothery who is joining us to take her place.

June 2010
Budget time for the second time. The Con-Dem budget was much heralded and introduced pain in the form of a VAT increase in January 2011, and a NIC increase and pain relief in the form of increased personal allowances from April 2011. On the other side of government, they promised huge cuts in government expenditure. Whilst trimming government expenditure and making it more efficient is a good aim, cutting too much can be worse than not cutting enough … however we will have to wait and see as much of the fine detail will come out over the next few months.

June 2010
Welcome aboard to Jack Emerson. Jack is starting with us as a trainee accountant and will start formal training for the AAT qualification in September.

March 2010
Budget time again only this time it was a bit of a nothing to report budget coming as it does immediately before a general election. We published our budget tax rates card and if anyone wants a copy please email the office.

February 2010
We had a our annual TGIF (Thank Goodness its February!) celebration at Bistro live in MK. Dancing on the tables was in order as we celebrated the end of another tax return season.

January 2010
We said farewell and good luck to Adam Beagin as he moves to Hudersfield for love!

November 2009
Welcome to a new team member - Aaron Blackwell. Aaron is a qualified accountant and joins us a manager.

August 2009
We welcomed hordes of customers and contacts to our “Pimms O’Clock” open day and enjoyed showing off our redecorated office.

April 2009
Our ‘Beat the Recession’ seminar attracted 46 business owners and proved to be stimulating and enjoyable (according to their feedback).

February 2009
We had a our annual TGIF (Thank Goodness its February!) celebration. A good ‘Boogie time’ was had by all as we celebrated the end of another tax return season.

December 2008
Congratulations to Joanne Hollier who gave birth to Daniel, who weighed in a 8lb 11oz!, on 9 December.

November 2008
Alistair Darling has presented the Pre-Budget Report… and changed the VAT rate amongst other things. Checkout out our practical guide to the VAT changes in the Beginners Guides if you need help. The PBR also promises a new Small Business Finance Scheme – this scheme will supplement the existing small firms loan guarantee scheme but no real details have been released yet.

October 2008
Welcome to a new team member. Joanne Holroyd has joined us. Joanne is moving to our area from Leeds. Joanne will be our new office manager… and as she is the fourth employee to be called Joanne proves that whilst you don’t have to be called Joanne to work here-it certainly helps!

April 2008
Sorry for anybody who was expecting, but didn’t get, an email from us between about 8 April and 12 April – a virus attack resulted in a suspension of outgoing emails until it was resolved. Hopefully all outgoing emails were successfully resent but if you are still waiting for a reply then please contact the office.

March 2008
Alistair Darling’s first budget as chancellor…is heavily overshadowed by all the changes that were actually announced a year earlier by Gordon Brown and doesn’t break much new ground. As ever the devil will be in the detail of the actual Finance Act and the challenge to UK business to provide profit for shareholders and employment for its workers. The abolition of the 10p tax band will be bad news for lower paid individuals, but good for middle England. The much-trumpeted capital gains tax changes are tempered by the £1m entreprenuer’s relief which is good for most businessmen and the 18% flat rate will be good for sellers of second homes. The changes to non-domiciled taxation may prove to be bad news for the UK but so far has only produced criticism, so time will tell on this as well as the rest of the budget changes.

December 2007
Welcome to a new team member. Ashley has joined us-but on a part time basis as he is currently going to college 4 days a week.

October 2007
Chancellor Darling gave his first pre-budget report … and as anticipated announced that the taxman is going to review and change the current system that allows dividends to be used to pay family members. So having spent 5 years going to and losing at court the taxman is a bad loser and will change the law! Most of his report had actually been part of Gordon Brown’s March 2007 budget, but he did introduce some new ideas – a married couples inheritance tax allowance (which is simply adding the partner’s two existing allowances together) A new tax on foreign nationals who have lived in the UK for more than 7 years and a change to capital gains tax that will increase the rate of tax on business assets from 10% to 18% from April 2008.

If its October then it must be Oktober fest time! To celebrate we had a staff outing to the Bedford Beer Festival ( www.northbedscamra.org.uk/beerfestival.html) we managed to acquire more tickets than we needed and invited a few clients to join us … and a very nice time was had by all. Even Adam, as nominated driver for the day, enjoyed himself.

August 2007

We held an open afternoon on Wednesday 22nd August, from 12pm to 4pm. We had a very pleasant afternoon and hopefully so did everyone who stopped by the office during the afternoon for a bite to eat, a drink and a chat.

July 2007
Apologies to anybody who tried to telephone us on Tuesday 24th or Wednesday 25th and didn’t get through. It seems that most of Cranfield went ‘off the air’ until BT’s engineers fixed the local exchange!

Welcome to Michael Copping who has joined us as a ACA trainee and a sad goodbye to Sarah Barber. May 2006 - Welcome to a new team member
Sarah Chorley has worked with us on a temporary basis before and is now returning after 18 months spent in France. She really enjoyed living there but didn’t find many opportunities for an English speaking accountant in rural France so has come back to the UK.

April 2006 - Free advertising works!
Having talked to various clients about getting free advertising, one of them had a go and got nearly a full page colour photo of the directors into their local paper … for free!
